Announcing Our 10th Annual Green & Clean Shredding Event – Making a Difference One Shred at a Time!

As we plan for you to come and celebrate this milestone of our Green And Clean Shred & More Event, let’s look at what this has actually meant to our very own community.

Since the event’s inception in 2013, participants have:

  1. Helped save over 300 trees through paper shredding.
  2. Spared landfills by recycling over 1,350 cubic feet of e-waste.
  3. Helped feed hundreds of local families through generous donations to the Community Food pantry.
  4. Over 15 truckloads of donations to charities such as the Veterans of America and Assistance League of Huntington Beach have given a new life to literally tons of gently used household items, toys, and clothing.

We are very proud to have taken the humble shredding event and turned it into a community gathering of goodwill. We’re just getting started!

This year’s event on April 8th, 2023 will kick off a second decade of having fun, while allowing you to declutter and unburden your household, all the while giving back to the community and the planet.

Here’s what you need to know right now – mark your calendars!

Paper Shredding: OC Shredding

Our friends at Orange County Shredding will be back with their high-capacity truck, ready to shred your unwanted documents securely and efficiently. Our team of friendly volunteers is here to make the process contact-free and as seamless as possible. Just have your papers organized in bags or boxes in the back seat or trunk of your car and we’ll take care of the rest. You can even stay around to watch your documents being shredded if you’d like!

Don’t forget to follow these tips for a smooth shredding experience:

  • Paper only please (staples are okay)
  • Remove papers from metal-lined folders and large binder clips
  • Have your documents organized in bags or boxes in your car
  • Arrive no later than 12:30 pm to ensure shredding before the truck departs at 1:00 pm sharp

CUMC Food Pantry

We are excited to announce that this year, we will be continuing our partnership with the Community United Methodist Church Food Pantry to make a positive impact on the lives of families in our community. As a community, we understand that many families are struggling to make ends meet, and we want to do our part to help alleviate some of their financial burdens.

The Community United Methodist Church Food Pantry has provided us with a list of the most needed items, which includes a variety of items ranging from peanut butter to canned meats, fish, fruits, and vegetables. We believe that these items will provide families with the necessary nutrition they need to get through their day.

Furthermore, we have identified that peanut butter, mac & cheese, and cereal are the most popular items with children, and we encourage our community to consider donating these items as well.

We understand that some people may have extra items in their pantries that they could donate, but we also encourage people to consider going to a big box store and purchasing a case of food to donate. By doing this, we can collectively make a significant impact and help provide essential items to families in our community who need them the most.

In conclusion, we hope that you will join us in this effort to show our generosity and support for families in our community. Your donations, no matter how big or small can make a significant difference in someone’s life. Let’s come together and make a positive impact in our community.

Donations: Assitance League

The Huntington Beach Assistance League has announced that they will once again be accepting donations of gently used household items, toys, and clean clothing with no visible stains or holes. This is a great opportunity for those who have items they no longer need or want to donate to a good cause.

The organization is specifically requesting that donors prioritize quality over quantity when making donations. This means that they would prefer to receive items that are in good condition and would be sellable in a thrift store. Doing so, will help the sorting process and ensure that the items donated can be sold to generate funds for the organization’s charitable activities.

The Huntington Beach Assistance League is a non-profit organization that provides assistance to individuals and families in need. They rely on donations from the community to support their programs and services, which include scholarships, educational programs, and support for victims of domestic violence.

If you have items that fit the criteria mentioned above and are interested in donating to this cause, be sure to drop them off at the designated donation location. Your contribution can make a difference in the lives of those who benefit from the Assistance League’s services.

E-waste

Electronic waste, commonly referred to as e-waste, refers to any electronic device or appliance that has reached the end of its useful life and is no longer needed. This includes a wide range of items, such as old record players, printers, fax machines, and giant screen TVs, among others.

While many people may simply throw these items away, this can be extremely harmful to the environment. E-waste contains hazardous materials such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, which can contaminate the soil and water if not disposed of properly. Additionally, electronic devices often contain valuable materials such as copper, gold, and silver, which can be recycled and reused in new products.

Therefore, it is important to recycle e-waste properly. If an electronic device plugs in or is battery-operated, it qualifies for recycling. This includes not only the aforementioned items but also items such as computers, cell phones, and even kitchen appliances like blenders and toasters.

By recycling e-waste, we can reduce the number of hazardous materials that end up in landfills and protect the environment. Additionally, recycling these materials can conserve natural resources and reduce the amount of energy needed to produce new products. So, if you have any electronic devices that you no longer need, make sure to recycle them properly to help protect the planet.

In Conclusion

We will look forward to seeing you on April 8th, 2023 in the parking lot of the Community United Methodist Church on Heil Avenue in Huntington Beach. As you’ve come to expect, our team of friendly volunteers will be there to guide your vehicle through the donation stations and get you out in record time. Unless you’d like to park and visit for a while; that’s become one of our favorite things about this day!

We can’t wait to see you there! Together, we can make a difference and leave a lasting impact on the environment and those in need.
