Why a Shred Event in Huntington Beach Matters More Than Ever

Identity theft continues to be one of the fastest-growing crimes in the country, and old bank statements, tax returns, and medical records sitting in a box in your garage are exactly the kind of target thieves look for. A community shred event in Huntington Beach gives you a safe, secure, and free way to destroy those sensitive documents—right before your eyes.

But it’s not just about security. Every pound of paper shredded at this event gets recycled instead of sitting in a landfill. Over the past eleven years, the Green & Clean event has collectively saved over 300 trees and diverted tons of paper waste from local landfills. In 2024 alone, participants shredded more than 12,000 pounds of paper—that’s six tons of documents given a second life.

When you participate in our shred event in Huntington Beach, you’re protecting yourself and protecting the environment. That’s a win-win we can all feel good about.

What to Bring: Your Green & Clean Checklist

Wondering what you can drop off? Here’s a quick rundown so you can load up the car and be ready to go.

Documents for Shredding (SoCal Shred)

  • Paper and cardboard only — no plastics (staples are fine, no need to remove them)
  • Remove large metal binders and clips before arriving
  • Pack paperwork neatly in bags or boxes and place in your trunk or back seat
  • Six-box maximum per household due to truck capacity — please be considerate of your neighbors
  • Arrive by 12:30 PM so your items are shredded before trucks depart at 1:00 PM

Want peace of mind? You’re welcome to stay and watch your documents get shredded on-site by SoCal Shred’s high-capacity trucks.

E-Waste for Recycling (Junk Luggers OC)

If it has a plug, bring it! Accepted items include:

  • Computers, CPUs, and monitors
  • Televisions (yes, even the big ones!)
  • Printers, scanners, and fax machines
  • Mobile phones and tablets
  • Small electronics of all kinds

Please note: No batteries at this event. And a good general rule of thumb — if one person can’t lift it, we can’t take it.

Junk Luggers OC handles all electronics responsibly, keeping harmful materials like lead, mercury, and cadmium out of our soil and water. Last year, the event recycled over 1,000 pounds of e-waste.

Nonperishable Food Donations (CUMC Pantry)

The Community United Methodist Church Pantry supports families experiencing food insecurity right here in Huntington Beach. All donated items must be within their expiration date. Most-needed items include:

  • Peanut butter
  • Chili and beans
  • Canned meats and fish (chicken, tuna, salmon)
  • Cereals and snack bars
  • Canned goods and dry goods of all kinds

Cash donations are especially helpful — the CUMC Pantry’s all-volunteer team uses monetary gifts to purchase exactly what’s most needed for local families’ food and nutrition needs. Every dollar stretches further than you’d think.

Household & Clothing Donations (Assistance League of Huntington Beach)

Spring cleaning season means closets full of clothes and household items you no longer use. The Assistance League of Huntington Beach will gladly accept:

  • Gently used clothing, toys, and household items — clean, free of stains and tears
  • Dishware, collectibles, jewelry, and crystal
  • Quality over quantity — if you’d buy it at a thrift store, it’s perfect to donate
  • No furniture or appliances, please

The Assistance League resells these items through their thrift store, and the proceeds fund scholarships, educational programs, and support for individuals affected by domestic violence.

A Dozen Years of Community Impact

What started as a simple neighborhood shred event in Huntington Beach has grown into something the Sackin-Stone Team is incredibly proud of. Twelve years in, the Green & Clean event is less about the shredding trucks and more about what happens around them—neighbors catching up, volunteers smiling, kids learning about recycling, and an entire community coming together for a shared purpose.

Here’s a snapshot of last year’s impact alone:

  • 6+ tons of paper shredded and saved from landfills
  • 1,000+ pounds of electronic waste recycled responsibly
  • Hundreds of pounds of food collected for local families
  • Multiple truckloads of household items donated to local charities

Since 1988, the Sackin-Stone Team has believed that real estate should be about people, not just properties. This event is one of our favorite ways to live that philosophy—because a thriving community makes every neighborhood a better place to call home.
